About Us

Leah Guren, owner
I accidentally entered the field of technical communication in 1980. As the part-time student techie grunt at a Southern California software company, I was up to my elbows in everything from FORTRAN overlays to pulling cable (I was the smallest person in the company, so I occassionally found myself in crawl spaces or even inside computer cabinets). At some point, the VP of R&D noticed that I could write, and within six months I had taken over all documentation-related tasks. It was love at first man page. I quickly realized that this was the ideal profession for me, and got serious about catching up on training.

technical communication
training and consulting
For the next 12 years, I worked extensively in software documentation as a writer, technical editor, tech pubs manager, and consultant. I began providing some in-house training services for tech pubs departments. After moving to Israel in 1992, I realized that the hi-tech market was in desperate need of trained TCs, and that no programs were available that taught more than the most common software applications. In cooperation with In Other WORDS, one of Israel's oldest technical communication companies, I developed a theory-based five-month training program for adults looking to enter the field. This course has been running ever since.
In 1995, I began transitioning over to full-time training and consulting. This has allowed me to have more of an impact on the profession by sharing my knowledge with the next generation. (Over 250 people have entered the field through my course, and many of them are managing tech pubs departments at some of the top hi-tech companies.)

In addition to my work with my clients, I am currently serving on the board of directors for STC (Society for Technical Communication) and am a regular speaker at TC conferences around the world.
